About Me
I am Catherine Browne, a BACP-registered, integrative/existential psychotherapist, who brings twenty-five years of diverse working life to my conviction that lives can be transformed through the acceptance and insight of counselling. I believe effective psychotherapy is a collaboration between therapist and client and how we get on together is essential for trust and change.
I am enthusiastic, empathic but also honest and direct when necessary. I am able to adapt my approach to suit my client’s needs, whether that is to be a confidante, just to witness where they are right now or to help formulate an action plan to achieve goals. I always aim to support clients to overcome the distress that brought them to counselling as quickly as possible, to gain insight and confidence expressing their true selves without hesitation and I try to empower my clients with skills to keep their emotional balance after therapy ends. I strive to find some brightness in the world around me no matter what bleakness I find myself facing which is why Brightness and Balance became the name of my practice.
I have an BA Honours degree in Philosophy as well as a degree in Integrative Counselling. Although less relevant to therapy I also hold a Msc. in Computer Science and a diploma in Business Continuity and Disaster Management. These four distinctly different subjects as well as my varied and, at times, challenging working life, have given me a flexible perspective. They have trained me to view any given situation through more than one lens.
I am based in Belfast in Northern Ireland.
